In a historic move for the Hazara community in Australia, Cumberland City Council in Western Sydney officially recognised 19th May as Hazara Cultural Day. This came after a proposal by Eda Tegin, a Hazara community advocate.
The motion was supported by Councillors Diane Colman and Glenn Elmore, and passed overwhelmingly on June 18, 2025. The decision honors Hazara cultural identity and sends a powerful message about embracing diversity in Australian society.
